On November 1^st, 2000, the Myriam Family was very pleased to accept the invitation of Archbishop Peter Mallon to work in the Archdiocese of Regina. When they were in Gravelbourg, living in the former Bishop’s residence in Gravelbourg, which has now been named “Myriam of the Prairies”.

The Myriam Family was founded in 1978 by Sister Jeanne Bizier. They were greeted into the diocese of Baie-Comeau, Québec by Bishop Jean-Guy Couture, Bishop of the Catholic Church in Hauterive, Québec and were later acknowledged by his successor, Bishop Roger Ebacher, as being a Family of spiritual devotion. They have ten missions in Canada: eight in Québec, one in New Brunswick and one in Saskatchewan. They also have two missions in Haiti, one in Switzerland, one in Russia and another in Belgium.

The Myriam Family is a spiritual Family of consecrated men and women vowed to a life of prayer and evangelization. In the early 2000s, the Myriam Family consists of 110 internal members (called “little sisters” and “little brothers”) working and praying with thousands of external associates who have joined the Myriam Family through spirituality for a faith journey or by baptismal commitments.

The Myriam Family’s first concern is to establish itself as an “Upper Room”. By adoration, the intentions of the Church and of the diocese may be brought before the Lord. They are particularly dedicated to prayer for religious and for committed lay vocations. To help others meet God in simple and confident prayer, they welcome groups or persons seeking spiritual renewal. You can join them in prayer and adoration. They also offer seminars on Christian Living.

Vowed to the Word of God, to the Church and to the family, the Myriam Family opens its house to the public for short sessions, retreats or seminars to promote Scripture study and formation for evangelization. In addition, the Myriam Family host parish retreats, visit schools, nursing homes, and senior citizens to encourage the faith and hope of others striving to live their baptismal commitment.

Members of the Myriam Family staying in Gravelbourg in the early 2000s were: Little Sister Yvette Bisson, director, Little Sister Geneviève Gadbois and Little Brother Alexandre Djoric. Don and Raymonde Goodfellow, a couple affiliated with Baie-Comeau, arrived in mid-January, 2001 to spend one year with the Myriam Family in Gravelbourg.
