Stained Glass Windows of the Co-Cathedral


Puisque l’Assomption de la Sainte Vierge (la grande verrière -29) est le 4e mystère glorieux des  15 mystères du rosaire, 14 des 16 petites fenêtres sont aussi dédiées aux mystères du rosaire et deux fenêtres aux anges gardiens en mémoire des anges de Msgr Charles Maillard.

Seeing that the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the 4th Glorious Mystery of the fifteen Mysteries of the Holy Rosary, fourteen of the sixteen smaller windows were dedicated to the Mysteries of the Rosary and two were left as guardian angels in rememberance of Msgr. Charles Maillard.

L’Annonciation -1er Mystère Joyeux – deux ailles représentant l’archange Gabriel, lys - Marie.
The Annunciation – 1st Joyous Mystery – two wings which represent Arcgangel Gabriel and the lily, Mary.

La Visitation - 2e Mystère Joyeux – la visitation de Marie à sa cousine Elizabeth, porte ouverte.

La Présentation de Jésus au Temple - 4e Mystère Joyeux – deux tourterelles – offrande traditionnelle des pauvres.

   representing the traditional offerings of the poor.

Agonie dans le jardin des Oliviers-Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Olives
L’Agonie dans le Jardin des Oliviers - 1er Mystère Douloureux – branche d’olives et coupe, qui représentent la passion de Jésus et sa prière, « Eloigne de moi cette coupe, non pas ma volonté mais la tienne Père. »
The Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Olives - 1st Sorrowful Mystery – branches of an olive tree and cup, which represents Jesus’ passion and prayer « Father not my will, but yours will be done. »

Notre Dame de l'assomption-Our Lady of the Assumption

Le grand vitrail de la façade de la Co-Cathédrale est dédié à Notre Dame de l’Assomption, 4e Mystère Glorieux – patronne de la Co-Cathédrale. La Vierge Marie qui monte au ciel accompagnée d’un chœur d’anges musiciens.
The large front window of the Co-Cathedral is dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption - 4th Glorious Mystery – Patron Saint of the Co-Cathedral. The Virgin Mary is rising to the Heavens surrounded by a choir of musical angels.

Dans l’escalier qui monte au balcon Est, il y a une représentation de Moïse avec les dix commandements et le buisson ardent.
On the East stairway leading up to the balcony is a stained glass window depicting Moses, holding the Ten Commandements, and the burning bush.

Prophete Isaie-Isaian the Prophet
Dans l’escalier qui monte au balcon Ouest, il y a un vitrail qui représente le prophète Isaïe et le sacrifice de l’agneau.
On the West stairway leading to the balcony is Isaiah the Prophet and the Sacrifice of the lamb.

Archanhe Gabriel-Archangel Gabriel
Dans le jubé Est – L’archange Gabriel « Force de Dieu » qui apporte la Bonne Nouvelle à Marie.
In the centre above the East balcony is a representation of Archangel Gabriel, « Force of God »,who bears the Good News to Mary.

Archange Michel-Archangel Michael
Dans le jubé Ouest – L’archange Michel « Qui est comme Dieu » qui est victorieux du combat des forces du Mal, représenté par le dragon.
In the centre above the West balcony is a depiction of Archangel Michael, « Who is like God », victorious over the combat with the forces of evil – represented by the dragon.

Saint Pierre-Saint Peter
Saint Pierre avec deux clés – Sacrement de l’Ordre – représenté par l’étole violet, le bénitier et l’encensoir.
Saint Peter with two keys – Sacrament of Holy Orders – represented by a purple stole, a Holy Water font and a thurible.

Evangeliste Saint Luc-Evangelist Saint Luke
L’Evangeliste Saint Jean et l’aigle – Sacrement de l’Eucharistie – représenté par le pain et la coupe.

Saint Paul et son glaive à deux tranchants – Sacrement du Mariage – représenté par une croix et les deux alliances (anneaux).

Evangeliste Saint Luc-Evangeliste Saint Luke
L’Evangeliste Saint Luc et la figure du boeuf – Sacrement de l’Onction des Malades – représenté par une faucille, l’O.I. (l’huiles des infirmes) et un sablier.
Evangelist Saint Luke and the ox – Sacrament of Anointing the Sick – represented by a sickle, the oil of the sick and an hour glass.

Evangeliste Saint Mathieu-Evangelist Saint Mattheu
L’Evangeliste Saint Matthieu et la figure humaine – Sacrement de la Réconciliation – représenté par une croix et une maille brisée d’une chaîne (le sacrement qui nous rend libre – on est libéré du péché).
Evangelist Saint Matthew and the human-faced figure – Sacrament of Reconciliation – represented by a cross and a broken link from a chain, « We are set free from sin. »

29.
Saint Joseph
Saint Joseph et le lys – Anno Jubilaei 1930-1980 – L’installation des vitraux était un projet dédié au 50e anniversaire du diocèse de Gravelbourg. Projet complété le 29 juin 1984.
Saint Joseph – spouse of Mary – Anno Jubilaei, 1930-1980. Istallation of the stained glass windows being a project for the 50th anniversary of the Diocese of Gravelbourg. Project completed June 29th, 1984. 

Les vitraux avec les gerbes de blé représentent les prairies. Nous voulons rendre gloire à Dieu le Père pour tout ce qu’il nous a donné. Ces vitraux se trouvent de chaque côté des portes Est et Ouest ainsi que dans les jubés du côté Est et Ouest.
The stained glass windows of wheat represent the prairies. The prairie people give glory and honor to God for all that he has given. They are found on either sides of the East and West doors as well as in the balconies. 

Les vitraux furent conçus et réalisés à Rennes en France par la compagnie Vitraux d’Art E. Rault.
The stained glass windows were conceived by the Vitraux d’Art E. Rault Company from Rennes, France.
